Praise the Lord illustrates Psalm 150, with the influence of
Seymour Chwast integrated into the content. The poster
was created to experiment with combining styles and
emulating Seymour Chwast’s style.
Seymour Chwast is humorous and direct, with a sense
of childish styles and simplicities. The poster reflects
those traits with an abstracted, linear illustration of a man
blowing a trumpet with bright colors. Blue and yellow
create a welcoming emotion to the viewer, they are also
eye catching colors that fit with the welcoming style. The
trumpet represents the line in the psalm, “Praise him
with the sounding the trumpet.” The trumpet was the
most direct and exciting instrument to fit the style of the
designer. Chwast’s bluntness is shown with the short
phrase “Praise the Lord.” This phrase is the first and last
line of the psalm so I used it to continue its importance,
that we should be constantly praising the Lord.
